FOR
America Walks
PROBLEM
Waiting to cross the street is one of modern life’s most musically underserved moments.
You’ve already committed to crossing. You can’t leave. You can’t go yet. You just stand there staring at an orange hand while cars get to live their lives.
Current audio solution: traffic.
Unacceptable.
ASSIGNMENT
Create a sonic experience specifically designed for the time between pressing the crosswalk button and receiving the walk signal.
STRATEGIC INSIGHT
The pedestrian doesn’t need information.
They need hope.
Because every crosswalk follows the same emotional journey:
I pressed the button. → Did it register? → Why are they getting to turn? → Surely I’m next. → OH COME ON. → WALK SIGN.
THE WIN
"Don't Walk" was delivered to pedestrians globally on September 25, 2026.
In testing, participants reported feeling significantly less agitated during the wait period. Two participants missed their walk signal entirely. One described the crosswalk as "somewhere I want to be now." A city transportation official contacted Winningism to express concern about signal compliance. We sent them the song.
The don't walk hand has never been more compelling.
